We’d love to welcome you to HBC this Sunday!

Each week we open the Bible, hear a talk, pray, sing, spend time in community, and hear stories from people of how Jesus has changed their lives.

Our church services are not like a club or an event. We’re a community of ordinary, imperfect people who gather around the Bible’s message about Jesus. Our meetings are open to everyone — whether you're full of questions, brand new to Christianity, finding your way back to church, or been a believer for as long as you remember.

There is room for you here!

Bible Talks

When you come along on a Sunday you can expect to hear engaging talks from the Bible that clearly explain both what it means and how it impacts the way we think, feel and live. Discover how the Bible gives us the answers to the questions that really matter.

What about kids and youth?

Kids

We’re passionate about partnering with parents and carers in raising kids to follow Jesus! Each Sunday, babies up to school year 5 gather for Kids Church during each of our 10am, 4pm and 4:30pm services. Find fun, safe, age-appropriate programs for kids where they can learn about Jesus, grow, make friends, and have a great time.

Arrive a little early to sign your kids in before the meeting and meet some of the Kids Church team.

We take child safety seriously and make sure all our staff and volunteers have had legal checks and safe ministry training.

Youth

We love seeing our teenagers grow in their knowledge and love of God together with the rest of our church family in our Sunday gatherings.

After the Bible talk during each of our 10am, 4pm and 4:30pm services, our Junior Youth from years 6 — 8 head out with their peers for their own Going Deeper Groups. GDGs are where they can discuss further and hang out together in small groups.

Let us know you’re coming

We’d love to know you’re coming so we can welcome you! We’d love to learn more about you, connect you to someone from our welcome team, and maybe even grab coffee!

What to expect

  • It’s Newcastle! Dress casual like you would at the shops. Talk like you would at home. We really want you to forget about what other people think and simply engage with God’s word in the Bible.

  • There is ample parking at Lambton High School (off Womboin Rd) and on the streets around our Charlestown venue. As you drive in you will see signs letting you know you’re in the right place and where you can park.

  • As you walk into the venue, there will usually be a few friendly faces at the door who will say hello and let you know you’re in the right place!

There’s usually time to grab a free coffee or some light refreshments before the meeting starts.

When the meeting starts, feel free to sit anywhere you feel comfortable. There is no assigned seating.

  • During the meeting each week, we typically open the Bible, hear a 25-35 minute talk, pray, sing songs about Jesus, and hear stories from people of how Jesus has changed their lives.

If you don’t have a bible to read along, that’s completely fine! Feel free to just listen, or you can follow along using an online Bible (like this one!)

  • Our meetings usually go for a bit over an hour. At the end of the meeting we’ll enjoy some tea and coffee and snacks together.

We’d love for you to stick around and meet some people. Folks will usually hang around and chat with each other for a little while after the meeting.

  • During our meetings, we take the opportunity to celebrate how God has been merciful to us by standing and singing together.

You don’t have to sing if you don’t want to. You’re very welcome to just sit or stand and listen to the words.

  • We’re an independent evangelical church. ‘Evangelical’ just means we take the Bible seriously, we believe it’s the word of God, and we’re committed to teaching it faithfully each and every week.

Find out more about our beliefs and the kind of church we are here.

  • Yes, of course you can! We have people from many different denominational backgrounds who call our church home.

We love the Bible’s message about Jesus, and we want to help you engage with it!

  • The simple answer is that we’re all about Jesus here at Hunter Bible Church. The Jesus revealed to us in the pages of God’s written Word; the Bible.

Learn more about what we believe here.

  • We’re very grateful for the use of the Charlestown Seventh-day Adventist Church’s venue at 51 Dickinson Street, but we are not affiliated in any way.

We’re an independent Evangelical church. See our beliefs here.

  • We love questions! If you didn’t get your question answered, just shoot us an email at hello@hunterbiblechurch.org or give us a call on 02 4023 1863.
